Bergen Catholic, ranked 20th in the DigitalSports National Lacrosse Rankings, advance to New Jersey’s Non-Public A tournament final after defeating 44th ranked St. Augustine on Saturday. The Crusaders boast a 19-0 record, placing them at the top of the table throughout the state.
Both teams started strong, each netting three goals in the first quarter. Only Augustine scored in the second, giving the Hermits a 4-3 lead going into the break.
Coming out of the half, Bergen found its rhythm, doubling up in the third quarter and taking a 6-5 advantage into the final period. The Crusaders added on another three goals in the third, only allowing two goals from St. Augustine, to win 9-7.
Chris Blewitt led the charge with three goals in Bergen’s effort. Michael Reilly marked two goals and two assists, and Kurt Holuba added on two more goals. The Crusaders’ goalie, Matthew Pedrick, made 13 saves in the contest.
Now Bergen prepares for the championship game against Delbarton on Wednesday, May 28. So far, the Crusaders have proven to be unbeatable and expect to continue that status.
